ForHousing starts construction on social housing development in Swinton

Social housing provider ForHousing has broken ground on a new development on Park Street, Swinton. The £9.3 million project will bring 42 high-quality one and two-bedroom homes to the area.

The ForHousing scheme, in partnership with Built Developers, is supported by £4.2 million in grant funding from Homes England and £420,000 from the GM Brownfield Fund. This will provide a new lease of life to the Salford site, which has been vacant since 2020.

With great connection routes to Salford city centre and several supermarkets within walking distance, the development is perfectly located and will generate a much-needed increase of affordable housing to the area.

Councillor Tracy Kelly, Statutory Deputy City Mayor and Lead Member for Housing and Anti-Poverty, said: “We are thrilled to see the Park Street development coming to life in a community where there is a need for more affordable, quality homes.

“Located just a short walk from supermarkets, cafés, and excellent public transport links, the new homes will offer tenants exceptional convenience and a well-connected place they can call home.

“We must all continue to work together to ensure we can build more homes where social housing tenants feel safe and secure.”

Clare Tostevin, Executive Director of Investment and Growth at ForHousing, said: “We’re committed to making a positive impact in the local community and on the lives of social housing tenants.

“The development of Park Street is a wonderful contribution to help meet the need for affordable, quality and well-maintained homes, where our tenants can feel safe and secure, and we are excited to bring new homes for Salford people to the area”.

As part of ForHousing’s social value strategy, contractors will look to employ local apprentices to help with the completion of the scheme - creating positive employment opportunities for the duration of the build, and helping local people gain valuable experience for future employment upon the development's expected completion in April 2027.
